By the way, before my eye drew me into revelry over that carpet, I was admiring the many perfect balances in the decor: comfortable without disposing of formality; neat but with books nearby and comfortable enough to live in; contrasts in color without looking gauche. It's more formal than a living room I'd build, but I'd feel very at home living in that room. The perfect pitch between living room and den... How that?
However. Allow me to post a warning on this kind of rug configuration. Unless the first rug is attached to the second with velcro etc. it is easy to trip on. This "trend" was used years ago, I am thinking the 30's. As it was my Grandmother that had rugs like this in her home.
Margaret Siemers thank you for the caution because I've filed this image of the rug on the carpet for much later use. I hope I remember the need for velcro too. Sometimes even a simple Persian rug has trouble: I had a friend who had the unfortunate habit of gravitating toward the floor whenever he visited me. Typically on the days after his visits, I had to move the furniture, rearrange the rug, then put the furniture back.

I love those rugs. If you walk on them barefoot it's like getting a foot massage.
