A short while back I published a photo of a Ration Book on The Vintage Life - this was for food following World War II. But what is often not realised is that clothing was also on ration following the war. The Clothing Book, as seen in the photo, was issued in Britain during 1947-48. As the front of the book clearly states "Detach the book and keep it safely. It is your only means of buying clothes."

  2. I had no idea and I need to look up a list of rationed items in Britain.

  3. When my parents moved from Missouri to Connecticut in October of 1942, they were worried about getting there and having enough gas.  Each of the gas stations were open different hours.  A worker at the Ration Board told them he thought they'd be ok, but that national rationing would probably begin in a couple of months. He was correct for it began in Dec. of 1942.
