A black and white postcard sent through the mail in the 1950s of Clacton Town, Essex, England. The photo was taken from the Pier. It's the cars I find interesting in this photo. #clacton #postcards
Duncan Glasfurd Thank you. I like to look back on how things once were (but also look to the future as well!)
ReplyDeleteThose cars look old for the 50s?
ReplyDeleteOshi Shikigami Folks were thrifty in those days. They kept a car till the wheels fell off, and that took a long time. Not like today.
ReplyDeleteOshi Shikigami The postcard has the postmark on it - so it was the 50s.
ReplyDeleteMargaret Siemers You are right, it wasn't a throw-away society back them. Things in general were made to last.
ReplyDeleteOh, I believe it's authenticity, no problem. Just that about five + years after the war, there was a huge boom in auto sales. and every car I could discern on the card looked to be at least a decade or several more out of date. Just an observation. :-)
ReplyDeleteAlso, the economy was booming here, but what about Europe? It took England a long time to dig out after the war.
ReplyDeleteIronically, it was Japan, and Germany that prospered the fastest.
ReplyDeleteOshi Shikigami Things weren't easy! Fourteen years of food rationing in Britain didn't end until 4 July 1954, when restrictions on the sale and purchase of meat and bacon were lifted. This was nine years after the end of the war.
