  1. John Campbell That scene is much more representative of what appears. The key to the story is: the hypocrisy and falseness of the bourgeoisie disguised with a false morality against a girl without guilts seen as a femme fatale for their destinies. An amoral mask against a moral mask of the fake respectability. He knows her since she was a little barefoot girl selling flowers in front of the theater, he makes her his lover, but now he must marry the daughter of the minister of the interior. "Oh, no! Lulu has to disappear forever! How this little bitch can sully my respectability!"... But she  is pure seduction and he can not resist his own will. Society morality isn't the human morality.
