Remember the old drive-in theaters

Remember the old drive-in theaters ? This is a painting by artist Adam Scott Rote. I hated it when they tore down the old drive-in theater that was here all my growing years. We had the best time watching movies , like all of the Clint Eastwood westerns and many more, and eating popcorn, especially in the spring and summertime. :-)

I have some great memories of the drive-ins..from going with my family as a young kid (with a sleeping bag all ready for me in the back of our '54 Bel Air station wagon when I got too sleepy), to my junior-high and high-school years (where the movie playing was just background noise for whatever extracurricular activity my friends and I were involved in), to my adult years with my own family. It's so sad that they have all but disappeared from our culture (none exist in my area anymore). I even worked at one of the local drive-ins as a senior in high school, and fondly remember re-running the movies again after the customers had all gone for the night with the rest of the crew until sunrise, while imbibing in the pony keg of beer we had collectively purchased... those are definitely great memories!
ReplyDeleteThat does sound like great memories Mike ! ..I would have loved to have been there too. I really hate that they tore them all down too. The one we had is now a CVS Pharmacy, which right before that was a Chinese restaurant. There is one that I know of that I hear that's supposed to still be there, and that's one about 40 miles from here near Lake Martin in Alex City. I've never been to it though, but when and if I ever get another car or truck, I'm gonna go looking for it. :-)
