"Woman, you are going to die a lone spinster if you don't use this!"

I thought it summed up the mentality of the advertisers quite well.

  1. Not much has changed, really, when you look at today's advertisements directed at women. It's still assumed that women's primary objective in life is to be attractive to men. People think that the deepest, most horrific insult to give a woman is to tell her that she is ugly (i.e. undesirable). It seems not to occur to many people that we might not actually want every man to find us "do-able."

  2. Excellent point Charlotte Issyvoo. The advertisements of today do target women into thinking they need to be attractive. However the adds for "Morning Breath" that had been on a few years ago targeted both men and women. This is only directed at a woman. There are fewer adds that target only women for things that can affect both genders. That is a step in the right direction.

  3. I follow fashion and therefore read a lot of fashion magazines and I've got to say that, if anything, it's worse now for women than ever. There is now a product (or several) for every single portion of the body, and a way that that portion of the body might turn men off. Sorry to say, but I don't think it's better in that sense now. As one example, look at how thin female stars now are and how much plastic surgery they get.

  4. I like what you just wrote about Movie stars Charlotte.I noticed the one that get rated as not going to have a career in the short future begin behaving in eratic ways and then it all spirals out of control.I think teen stars should be groomed to pace there selves over to adult films.
