Look what I got at Value Village this evening!

Look what I got at Value Village this evening! I got the whole lot for $7.99. The ones on my left are my favourites. What are yours? (And, doesn't that olive green brooch remind you of 1970s kitchen appliances?)

  1. OK,  I'll bite. What's a Value Village?
Is that your new table? Lets see more of it.

  2. Where are you Margaret? Value Village is a huge chain of huge second hand stores in Canada and, I'm pretty sure, the States.

Yes! That is my new table! I've been waiting to get more colour in the kitchen before I take more photos. I do have a photo somewhere. I'll try to dig it up and post it. I got the table for $75 but, um, the legs are duct taped together for now. Thus the price.

  3. South Central Pennsylvania. Never heard of it. Are you in Canada?

  4. Looks like you got a good bit of product for your money. That can be so much fun, treasure hunting.

  5. I've never heard of Value Village either, but I'm way down south in Alabama. Things, store chains only show up around here when one can find affordable land. Land in the southern states is very expensive. Looks like you found some really nice things. Anyways, I must get some rest. Good night , once again. :-)

  6. Never heard of it, either, but I have heard of Savers, Goodwill, Salvation Army, and Angel View. Great places to go hunting for stuff.

  7. Yes, all, I'm in Canada and have been most of my life, though I am originally American. I'm pretty sure Value Village, or the VV Boutique as we like to call it, is in some states. It's an institution up here. I even worked at one when I was about nineteen. I've never heard of Savers or Angel View. We have Salvation Army, aka the Sally Ann, and Goodwill here but they're not quite as big as VV.

  8. Ah, a little information is needed. You are both talking about the same company when you say Savers or Value Village. (we have neither name here where I am) I went to the web site. They are based in Washington State and have stores in the USA, Canada, and Australia. Nice little company, the information is below as taken from the company page and it fills you in better than I can.

Our founder, William O. (Bill) Ellison (July 3, 1928 – May 25, 2008), grew up in “thrift” before the name was even coined.  His grandfather and great uncle, Ben and Orlo Ellison, were instrumental in building the Salvation Army's thrift organization in the 1930's and '40s.  Bill opened his first store in San Francisco, California in 1954.

By 1970, the San Francisco store became a chain, and its headquarters moved north to the Seattle, Washington area. Savers, Inc. went international in 1980 when it opened its first Canadian store on Hastings Street in Vancouver, British Columbia called Value Village.

In the last 50+ years, we've grown to more than 315 stores and have paid more than $1.5 billion dollars to local nonprofits over the last 10 years.

Savers, Inc. is the parent company of TVI, Inc. Village Stores, Inc., Savers Australia Pty, Ltd. and Savers Recycling, Inc. TVI, Inc. operate in the United States under the trade names Savers, Value Village, Unique and Valu Thrift. In Canada, Value Village Stores, Inc. operates under the trade names Value Village and Village des Valeurs. Savers Australia Pty Ltd operates in Australia under the trade name Savers. We employ more than 19,000 team members throughout the United States, Canada and Australia and have an optimistic plan for future growth.

No need to feel like we would think less of you Charlotte for being an Ex Patriot. No borders here, no need for them.  Doesn't matter where you're from or where you're going to end up in life. What matters is that we care about each other.

  9. Ah, but might I think less of you because you're NOT ex-pats? : ) I moved to Canada when I was almost six because my (now ex) step-father had a job here. I summered every year in the Adirondacks and my whole family is American, but I've only lived there by choice (i.e. as an adult) for less than a year. That was NYC. I guess I'm just used to the more socialist culture up here.

And thanks for all the info. on Savers and Value Village. I worked at that one on Hastings back in the early 90s, when people would leave their used needles in the change rooms.

  10. Oh Look, John Campbell has been rendered speechless! What happened John, just throwing up your hands and giving up? Can't say I blame you.

  11. ??? Is it something I said? That smiley face after the thing about ex-pats shows it's a joke, yes?

  12. Oh! I said something, and then thought better of it. But I can monitor myself that way. I come to this particular community because it's , for the most part, been  a pleasant, happy, and fun place to visit. But lately, it's been getting snarky. Stop the snarkyness. If snarkyness is what someone requires they should go to facebook.

  13. I wasn't being snarky, was I? That certainly wasn't my intent. I was just chatting. Maybe something got lost without tone of voice?

  14. Not the first time. As in, this wasn't.
