One of the two giants of dance in the classic Hollywood musicals..the other being Gene Kelly. Both were amazing talents and choreographic geniuses. I am a fan of both, but always preferred Kelly's more exuberant, athletic style, not to take anything away from Astaire's sleek lines and love of experimentation~
This puts the average drummer to shame. It's as if they are only half as talented as Fred (though not quite) or maybe they prefer sitting due to laziness. Bring on the Beat!
This is a brilliant and joyous clip, Steve Hart . Though he didn't express brawn and strength as did Gene Kelly, Mike Srok , one cannot deny Fred's athleticism :-}
Agreed, John Kampsen! Fred's athleticism manifested itself differently than Gene's (as Gene's sports background was evident in his delivery, as well as his incorporation of ballet movements into his routines and choreography). They were most certainly equals in the the enthusiasm and joy of the art that they effortlessy exhibited on the screen:)

ReplyDeleteI think that is what made Astaire so good. He did some amazing things, like this above. Kelly was way cool too.
