And makeup too! Egad, the pastel lips, the false eyelashes, the penciled brows, super heavy upper eyeliner... I've done it a few times but it's not a look I do with regularity.
Early 60's,..like Diana Ross and my sister Elaine's High School graduation photo..lol..not the hippie 60's...lol :-)..but goodness wouldn't she look great with long natural hair like the late 60's, or even like some models today,..make-up yeah, but with an olive green or black turtle-neck sweater to go with the color of her beautiful hair. :-)
Working in theater, I see women with makeup, false eyelashes, penciled brows, and heavy eyeliner all the time. Looks good, and normal to me. And it seems to me that the theater ladies and dancers that I know seem to like playing with changing their look all the time. As for myself, i'm glad that I don't have to go to all that trouble. But when i had hair, I would definitely fuss over that. Curly hair just does what it wants to. So being bald now is so much simpler.
Women don't "have to" to that and many don't, but, for some of us, it's great fun to play with our looks. I enjoy it. I just don't actually like this particular look all that much. I do Mod from time to time though.
Mine was. My mother had long, straight hair. My father, who is Jewish, tried to grow his hair but it just grew up and out into a Jewfro. My brother and I also had long hair.
I really think that is a stereotype about Jews that you have...with them having big, puffy hair! In my husband's hippie days he had a gorgeous mane of long and very straight black hair that matched his fabulous black beard. :D
I know many Jewish men and none come to mind having the type of hair you are referring to.
I know not all of them have that, of course, but a good number do. I'm Jewish and do have that hair as do many of the members of my synagogue. I LOVE my Jewish hair and always have. I get compliments on it all the time. Didn't mean to offend.
It's true Nina that many Jewish men have straight hair, but also true that some have curly hair. Some are like Neil Diamond with straight but thick hair, and some like Bob Dylan with very curly-to-frizzie hair..lol,..both Jewish. In Israel today, there are both. :-)
I didn't know what to say dear Nina. :-)..so I just said that. lol. Btw, I like your new profile photo ! Finally I get to see who I have been talking to for 3 or 4 years ! :-). Fantastic !..you should have done that a long time ago. Now I can visualize you walking across the Brooklyn Bridge and having your art exhibit in New York City. Very nice ! :-)
I'm not complaining. Looks good to me.

ReplyDeleteMatthew Woodall Definitely not hippie 60's hair, as you say. :)

ReplyDeleteI am Jewish and never heard of a Jewfro.
Really, Nina Kuriloff? You know what I mean, though, don't you? You know that big, puffy, curly mane that many Jews have? Jewfro! Think Art Garfunkel.

ReplyDeleteMatthew - What you say is true of men of all religious persuasions. :)
Think about it!!!

ReplyDeleteno problem. :)
I very much agree Nina. Even blond headed people can have either..hehe!!..no matter what religion or nation. :-)
ReplyDelete...uummm..except the black-African nations, and their full blooded descendants :-)
ReplyDeleteMatthew Woodall that crossed my mind.
