You don't realize the enormity of the US manufacturing prowess until you visit these sites. Most people under the age of 40 have no idea what a healthy blue-collar economy looks like.

The rise of the low-paying service industry and white collar work is a recent modern trend. There was a time when lawyers, MBAs and investment bankers worked for people that made "things". Now this professional class largely owns the people that make things, often in financial and legal indentured servitude relationships.

For example, Walmart pays their employees just enough that they can afford to shop only at Walmart and rely on government assistance to survive long enough to come back into Walmart to work another shift.

  1. You are correct Chasing Smokestacks , the full size image is a wonder. I had no idea how large these locomotives were.
