Happy New Year to the Vintage Life Community !
Postings on this page usually are things that are interesting and look back in time at other folks and what they were doing. This is more personal.
This is a post card shot of a place originally called Eastern Michigan Asylum built in 1863. The name was changed to Pontiac (Michigan) State Hospital and later to Clinton Valley Center . I spent 8 years working here (through and after college) and I had the keys to the whole place ! There were even underground tunnels. It was a working dairy farm for many years that provided the inmates with jobs to do. For many years, I worked the graveyard shift. If there is any place that is spookier than an insane asylum in the middle of the night, I don't know it :-)
Thank you John Kampsen for this post and story. Your presence brought some light and cheer into those dark hallways and dismal lives. Today we celebrate the New Year knowing you were once there. It looks incredibly spooky!
ReplyDeleteIt makes me feel a little sad that such a huge place is needed for so many people with problems. I think anyone that could work with these folks is an Angel walking among us. Here's to you John Kampsen I am proud to know you.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great looking building.
ReplyDeleteVery cool John Kampsen! I have been to Pontiac. You must have nerves of steel.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you, too!
