  2. Thanks Sean Kinney .  It came from my Father-in-law. I think that is some nearly worn off brass plating. It's old but it still works well.

  5. It looks just like a winder on an old pocket watch, but it just locks down the needle so it doesn't bounce around.

  8. Didn't your father in law serve in WWII? Any idea how he came by it?

  9. He was in the navy during WWII. He was a mine sweeper in the pacific rim. I'm sure this was his service compass.
