Steve Hart that is beautiful! Where did you get that? is that a brass housing?
Thanks Sean Kinney . It came from my Father-in-law. I think that is some nearly worn off brass plating. It's old but it still works well.
Steve Hart are there manufacturer markings or country of origin stamps?
Does the stem winder do anything? It doesn't look like it has clock hands.
Or maybe it does
It looks just like a winder on an old pocket watch, but it just locks down the needle so it doesn't bounce around.
I'll try to check for markings when I'm back home Sean Kinney
It looks like it is a 1940's Taylor Gydawl WWII Military Compass. http://www.compassmuseum.com/pocket/taylor_e.html
Didn't your father in law serve in WWII? Any idea how he came by it?
He was in the navy during WWII. He was a mine sweeper in the pacific rim. I'm sure this was his service compass.
That is amazingly cool.thanks for sharing Steve Hart .
Russell Jelks I'm sure you've got some vintage things around your place. You and Sherry ought to take a picture and post its history too!
