How do you define vintage? Is it a style? An era? A feeling? What does vintage mean to you?

Comments

  1. A time of the past that felt new at that moment of its time.

  2. I'll have to think about that one Kenneth Michur! That seems deep...plus I have a headache right now.

  3. Since you are "The Vintage Painter" and created this group, I would like to know your definition of "vintage."
    :)

  4. I'll refer to Chrissy Mount Kapp for that answer! I'm just her partner that hangs things and moves them around for her Nina Kuriloff! ;-)

  5. vintage to me means "classic".

I think of the "golden age" of passenger railroad in the 1940s-1960s with streamlined locomotives.

The classic American cars of the 1950s and 60s

A time when things seem like they were better made, people took more pride in their work, and there was still a wow factor.

I love finding vintage items to photograph and I love seeing advertising and art depicting that era =)

  6. The Vintage Painter  Hi,..I was just wondering, ..are you Sean?..and forgive me please, but I was just curious, I hope you don't mind me asking,..but are you a guy or a girl?..lol:-) Plus, thank you for the invite indeed. I was a bit puzzled at first, because yesterday I was invited to join the part II of this community and it took a few to figure out that there were 2 of your community groups, with the part II having more members. Anyway, this is very nice as well as the other one. Many thanks ! :-)

  7. Actually the part II that I was referring to is actually called one ( I ) instead of II.  Please forgive me but it can be confusing,..and that may be because my doctor has me on some intoxicating pain meds..lol..I will be having surgery very soon he says. :-)

  8. Hi Matthew Woodall . I'm Sean. My partner is The Vintage Painter . She paints vintage and Americana themed paintings. She is around but since I'm sick I've been missing with this on and off all day.

When I set up the other community I screwed up and set it as private instead of public. Unfortunately once set as public or private you cannot unring the bell.

  9. As such Matthew Woodall tomorrow I will be deleting the closed community.

  10. I see now. :-)..I hope that your headache goes away and that you will be feeling better very soon. I just wanted to mention also, that I will be only getting on the Internet about 2 to 3 times a week, instead of how I used to be, when I would be posting other artist work from the time I awoke, till the time I was so exhausted from doing all that, that I had to crash and get rest. My life has to have more meaning that, and besides, I have been debating on upgrading my Chrome browser, but I'm afraid to, because I'm afraid that I would lose all my friends and settings...and I don't want to do that. But my browser is getting a lot of quirks in it. When I came back online after being gone for about a year, I was very surprised at the new banner as well as some other things. Anyways Sean I don't want to give you any more of a headache, so I'm going to go and see what else is happening before I get offline for a while. Please do get well soon. Most sincere -- Matthew

  11. i have always associated "vintage" with objects that are "old."
but, i do not know how old vintage items are supposed to be. ;)

some people consider "vintage" items to be at least 50 years old.
and then there is the term "retro" to consider, or not. ;)
